2024 Cohort

Meet our 2024 Cohort

Jehan A. Alarfaj

My name is Jehan, and I am currently in the final year of my PhD in Mathematics at Saint Louis University, with a specialization in Algebra. My academic journey has been deeply rooted in a passion for mathematics, which has guided me through various stages of my education and research. I began my academic career in Saudi Arabia, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in mathematics. This foundation laid the groundwork for my further studies, driving me to pursue a master’s degree at Ohio University. During my time there, I was exposed to a wide range of mathematical disciplines, but it was Algebra that truly captivated me. Now, under the guidance of my advisor, Dr. Ashish, I am dedicated to exploring the complexities of Algebra at a deeper level. My research is focused on Leavitt path Algebra, and I am excited to contribute new insights to the field.

Samantha Doll

My name is Samantha Doll and I am a Junior majoring in Mathematics. I am a transfer student from Chicago, Illinois and have always found comfort in mathematics throughout my academic journey. While attending my previous institution, I had the privilege of tutoring students in a variety of mathematical courses and collaborating with many professors both inside and outside the classroom. These experiences are what cemented my decision to pursue mathematics and explore the many aspects of mathematical research that I am now able to partake in at Saint Louis University. Mathematics has always been a subject that excites me and encourages me to question the world around me, so I am excited to explore the opportunities that the Mentoring Math Minds program has in store both academically and professionally.

Preetinder Kaur

My name is Preetinder Kaur, and I am junior at Saint Louis University pursuing an Honors Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics, with a minor in Economics. Originally from India, I immigrated to the US in May 2022 and am a proud first-generation college student. Math has always been a subject that excites me, particularly the logical challenges it presents. Although, I initially intended to minor in Mathematics, after just one semester, I realized that my passion for the subject was far greater, leading me to double major in it alongside Computer Science. While I haven’t yet delved deeper into advanced mathematical courses, I am eager to explore the field further with the guidance of the Mentoring Math Program Team.

Sam Liu

My name is Samuel Liu and I am from St. Louis, Missouri. I am pursuing a BS of mathematics at Saint Louis College of Arts and Sciences as well as a minor in finance at the Chaifetz School of Business. I thoroughly enjoy translating basic math concepts and computer skills toward innovative research advancements. While at Saint Louis, I perform research in the mathematics department under Elodie Pozzi and in the finance department under Norman Guo. For the past year, I have engaged with problems in financial mathematics, mathematical physics, and human capital investment. Outside of academia, I serve on the Dean’s Mission Committee Board of Chaifetz School of Business and fight competitively with Tracy’s Karate.

Nathaniel Stonebrook

My name is Nathaniel Stonebrook and I have been passionate about studying mathematics since I was a very young child. My interests in mathematics are pretty far reaching, as I believe exposure to various fields of math is what I need most. With such a limited background, it would be too much to say that I prefer this field over another, but I am excited to find which one fits me best. If I were to say any field specifically, it would be Analysis, since I believe it has answers to fundamental questions—the “proofiness” of math—that I have had all my life. I am participating in this program to gain that exposure, to have conversations with mathematicians, to learn, and to eventually put myself in a position to do research of my own. I am hopeful that this will be a fantastic opportunity to learn and gain mathematical maturity, and I look forward to being part of the program.

Sasha Trejo-Arciles

My name is Sasha Trejo-Arciles and I’m a first-generation Honduran/Salvadoran-American. Currently, I am in my senior year pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. While my initial focus was on computer science, my growing passion for mathematics has changed my academic journey. I’ve found myself increasingly drawn towards mathematics, which has inspired me to desire to pursue further education in mathematics. My ultimate goal is to become a professor of mathematics. I’m incredibly excited to be apart of the Mentoring Math Minds program.
